When I write, I get inspiration from anywhere I can get it. And I mean anywhere. And one of my biggest writing inspirations is to find someone, see what they’re doing in that moment and then wonder what their story is. How did they get here? Why are they doing that? What point in their life do they seem to be?
My brain does that a lot. Not for everyone but for most people, and especially the ones that seem like they have something going on in their life. People and thinking of what happened to them truly motivate me to write.
Today, I was driving along, going to a friend’s house. While at a red light, I turn to glance at the car next to me. There’s an older man in the car, but just the way he was dressed, the way his semi-long hair looked, the way he sat in his car, and drove off after the light turned green made me think. He struck me as someone that would go for a much younger girl. Like barely legal. Now for all I know, he could be happily married to someone near his age, but the gears started turning, and I couldn’t stop them even if I tried.
I formed a mental story of an older man and his much younger lover. How even though, the sex was great, he tried his hardest to find an emotional link for them, because as much as he loved to be with her in bed, he just really wanted a lady at his side, to love and cherish. And on went the thoughts of their attempted dates, fierce arguments about how he could never really love someone as young as she, but how he felt a real connection, and it just went on and on.
If I’ll ever write their whole story down on paper and edit it, revamp it, perfect it…I’ll never know. At least not until I’m doing it.
What inspires you to write? Or draw? Or play? Or anything really? What’s your inspiration?
You should try the mall, it’s a good place to people watch. If you are going for something funny go to Walmart, lots and lots of material there!
That is a good idea! I generally don’t think to watch people at the mall, but I will now! Thanks 🙂
