House of Cards (A Poem)

House of Cards

Please walk softly now
when you go by.
Don’t slam the door when
you’re going out.
Don’t force yourself in
while I’m busy.

Sometimes I breathe hard
and almost fall.
I loudly close doors
rocking it all.
I adjust some cards
scaring myself.

Please don’t do what I
can to myself.
Don’t look at me like
I need your tape.
It will be alright
with careful hands.

Screaming my throat raw
everything moves.
My frustration hurts
and it must leave.
There’s is much better
than all of mine.

Why can’t I make it
right with each try.
The cards fall around
me endlessly.
Tears in my eyes run
feeling defeat.

Quickly I gather
all the pieces.
I don’t need the help
to make it fine.
With shaking hands I
slowly rebuild.
